Lonnie Hest passed away on October 26th, 2012.
Lonnie lived on the Upper West Side in New York City , where he had practiced law since graduating from Columbia Law School. He only stopped going into the office in February. He and Amy have two adult children, daughter Kate and son Sam.
Lonnie died from a quasi-rare malady called Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). It is a degenerative neurological disorder similar to Parkinson’s. The average trajectory is about 7 years.
Amy said in summarizing his life that Lonnie was “a thoroughly lovely family man.” He “never stopped talking about what the college did for him.”
