Stephen Stewart Mark was born on January 2, 1945 to Stewart and Ruth Eleanor Mark in Oklahoma City. After graduating from Harding High School, where he was on the debate team, he went to Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. Steve loved music and spent many evenings singing and playing his guitar with his classmates.

After graduating in 1967, he joined the Navy and served as an officer aboard the destroyer USS Davis during the Vietnam War. Before his ship sailed, however, he attended the first day of the legendary Woodstock Festival.

Following his naval service, he attended law school at the University of Texas in Austin, where he was an editor of the Texas Law Review. He graduated in 1972 and practiced law in Dallas until 2005. Steve was a Partner at Johnson & Swanson; General Counsel, Valley View Holdings, Inc.; General Counsel, Swift Independent Packing Company; and Partner, Mitchell & Mark.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Peter Jonathan Mark, who was born October 14, 1973 and died November 15, 1973.

He is survived by Mary Anne Malone, his sister; his nephews Mark W. Malone and George L. Malone; Shelby Fuqua, his former wife and wonderful friend; Melanie Sapper Young, his true love of the last 14 years; and his beloved dogs, Rita and Darwin.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, February 12. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a charity of your choice or to the ASPCA.
